A message from the Founder

Hello!

Hi, I’m Philippa. The reader, dreamer and slightly over-enthusiastic book lover behind Chapter & Fable.

I’ve always believed that books have a wonderful way of bringing people together. They give us somewhere to escape reality, something to talk about and, sometimes, the chance to find people who understand without having to explain why you stayed up until 2am to finish a book when you have work and children to look after.

Chapter & Fable was born from the idea that we all deserve a little time that is entirely our own. Time to read, to rest, to laugh, to eat something delicious and to spend a few days somewhere beautiful with people who love stories as much as we do.

I wanted to create the kind of retreat I would want to go on myself - thoughtful, cosy, a little bit magical with all the little touches and completely free from the pressure to do anything other than enjoy yourself.

So, whether you arrive with a friend or come on your own, I hope you’ll truly fall in love with the Chapter & Fable experience. I hope you find a new favourite book, a new favourite place and, perhaps, even a few more favourite people.

Welcome to Chapter & Fable. I’m so glad you’re here.

Our Story

Chapter & Fable began with a simple idea: what if we could create the kind of reading retreat I knew I would love?

As a lifelong reader, I’d often imagined what my perfect escape would look like. Somewhere beautiful and full of character. A cosy room of my own. Wonderful food prepared for me. Plenty of time to read. A little bit of luxury and, most importantly, a room full of people who love books just as much as I do.

I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, so I decided to create it.

Chapter & Fable is my version of the perfect reading retreat - thoughtfully planned weekends where you can put everyday life down for a little while and simply enjoy being somewhere beautiful, surrounded by like-minded bookish people like myself.

And while the retreats are at the heart of Chapter & Fable, I hope they’re just the beginning. I want to create a community where readers can keep coming back to each other, whether that’s around a dinner table, in a book club, on a live chat or somewhere completely unexpected.

Come for the books. Stay for the experience. And perhaps, leave with a few new favourite people.
